ADVANCED HELP TOPICS:
How often will a reminder be repeated?
Every 1 to 180 days, i.e. every 3 months on average.
How can I make a reminder for a specific
date (for instance a person's birthday), rather than having it sent and repeated randomly?
Let's assume the person's birthday is on December 27. Enter the following:
Tom's birthday
;;12/27 ry
Note: Start the second line with two semicolons (";;"). The "ry" tells
MagicMinder to make sure this reminder gets repeated yearly.
How can I make a reminder that will be
repeated between every, let's say, 10 and 20 days?
Enter it like this:
Tom
;;rr10_20
"rr" stand for repeat reminder; the second line has to
begin with two semicolons (";;").
Receiving MagicMinder reminders on your cellphone
An Email reminder will only do you good if you receive it. Your cellphone is an excellent "receiver" for email reminders since you almost always have it with you. Ask your cellphone provider for your cellphone's email address if you don't find it below (some cell phone providers may charge you a small amount for each email to your cell phone. You may want to check with your provider). Then, after logging into your MagicMinder account, click "Account" (on the bottom of the page) to get to your account settings, enter your cellphone's email address under "mobile email address". To easily mark any of your MagicMinder entries as an cell phone reminder, simply add to it a line starting with two semicolons followed by a "-c" (the "-c" designates your cellphone address). Here are some examples that show how easy and fast this is:
EXAMPLE:
Tom Smith
;; -c
To receive a reminder, both on your cell phone and your
normal email inbox, add a "-c" and a "#1" after the two semicolons.
Example:
Tom Smith
;; -c #1

on May 31, 2002 at 9 AM, and then every 31st of the month (if a month has less than 31 days, the system will use the nearest day (e.g. Feb 28 in a leap year). "re" stands for "repeat every". Thus "re31" means "repeat every 31st". |
| 30 | pay bills ;;0900 re28 |
On the current day (which may be a day different from the 28th) at 9AM, and then on every 28th of the month. |
| 31 | Buy tickets for
trip to NYC ;;11/4 3pm rx |
This date will automatically expand to 11/4/2003 (assuming that 2003 is the current year). When a year is not specified, the system will assume you mean the current year, or, if the date would be a past date, the following year. |
| 32 | Specify
explicit email address in timed reminders: Besides the "#1" etc. codes for specifying email addresses in a timed delivery, one can now also include one explicit email address. That has the advantage that a user can easily have a timed reminder emailed to any recipient, even if that person's email address is not listed in any of the 3 email slots in the account setting page. Example: remember my birthday today |
|
| 33 | Touch base with
Pete ;;rr |
The "random repeat" marker ("rr") will randomly pick a date sometime within the next 365 days and send the reminder at 6am on that date. When the reminder is sent, the system will randomly pick a new date, again within the following 365 days. Random repeat reminder are very useful, for instance, to occasionally be reminded to stay in touch with people. |
| 34 | Touch base with
Pete ;;rr30_90 |
Like 33, with the difference that the intervals will be between 30 and 90 days rather then the default of 1 to 365 days. |
